What are the benefits of stretching?

While there are obvious benefits of increased range of motion and flexibility, there are other surprising benefits of stretching.

Helping the muscle fibers reach their peak length allows us to access more of its strength, power and range.

Stressing tendons at their attachment points makes them stronger at those sites, in turn helping to prevent injury to these tissues.  Tendons aren’t as flexible as other tissues in the body, and injury occurs when they are stretched too quickly and unexpectedly. Through slow, consistent, and careful stretching, you can take an active part in injury prevention by increasing tendon elasticity.

Being stretched by a professional that understands anatomy helps to achieve stretching on muscles that we ourselves cannot contort our bodies well enough to access. A stretching professional well versed in origin, insertion and actions of muscles, will know what stretching positions will optimize the most effects results on those muscles that are harder to stretch on our own.

How can massage and a stretching routine work together?

Enjoying a regular massage helps to keep your body relaxed and flexible. Massage can release trigger points and muscles in spasm, making your stretching routine even more effective. Stretching is the perfect maintenance between massages. Stretching helps maintain the muscle lengthening and memory shifts achieved during your massage sessions.

Stretching sessions consists of:

Passive stretching: The client relaxes through stretches that Julie takes the body through.

Contract Relax Stretching: The client will work with Julie and resist against certain motions and then relax, giving Julie the ability to take her client deeper into the stretch for a few second after the resistance is released.
