Pediatric Care
The doctors at Thrive for Life love taking care of your children. Our chiropractors have extensive training working with the pediatrics population. Dr. Matt has children of his own who have been under chiropractic care since birth. A child’s development occurs through the nervous system and chiropractic care helps to remove the interferences that are placed on the nervous system by correcting misalignments. All children and adults become misaligned, whether there are symptoms or not. This can occur through the birthing process, normal growth process and falling.
Safe Adjusting for Children
Chiropractic care for children is extremely safe and is essential in giving them the best chance for optimal development. When a child is adjusted it is important to keep in mind that the adjustment they experience is not the same as an adult. The techniques and pressure that is applied is adapted to the child to protect their delicate bodies.
Why Do Children Need Chiropractic Care?
The International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association (ICPA) recommends that children should have their spine and nervous system checked by a chiropractor as soon as possible after birth and with each major milestone. Dr. Arpad DeNagy, MD a former neurologist from the Rockefeller Institute, states “chiropractic care should begin at birth on a preventative basis”. In a supporting study, a group of M.D.’s found that 80% of children’s nerve systems are not in balance and concluded that, “all newborns should have their spines checked by chiropractors.” We could not agree more!
Beginning at birth, children become misaligned. Birthing of all types, whether natural or doctor assisted can cause these misalignments, placing irritation on the nervous system. When there is irritation on the nervous system, it can lead to further complications and conditions that the child might be experiencing. It is common for there to be not only spinal misalignments but, also cranial misalignments.
The vast majority of parents report that their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and look forward to future visits. They also report that their children experience a greater level of health and wellness while under chiropractic care.
Cranial Work on Children
Our chiropractors have excessive training in cranial adjusting. The sutures of the skull often become misaligned during the birthing process. This can be corrected with gentle chiropractic care that follows the flow of fluid through the brain. These misalignments can be an overlap in the sutures or a separation of the sutures.
Common Conditions
There are many conditions in children that can be treated through chiropractic care that the majority of the population is unaware of. These can include, but are not limited to: ear infections, colic, acid reflux, sleeping issues, nursing difficulties, bed wetting, asthma, allergies and chronic infections.
You Can Have Two Doctors
- A pediatrician that can provide medications when necessary and deliver reactive care in times of serious illness and injury.
- A chiropractor that can provide preventative wellness care and maintenance of the child’s structure, immune system, and overall health.
It takes far less time, money, and effort to raise kids with a healthy lifestyle than to wait until symptoms and diseases begin. Parents around the world are turning to chiropractic care as a proactive and drug free approach to their children’s health and wellness.
Chiropractors do not treat disease. They help to correct areas of imbalance in the spine and nervous system that interfere with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Through gentle chiropractic adjustments, counseling on proper nutrition, exercise, and good posture, a chiropractor can help parents make sure their children grow up healthy and happy, expressing their full potential.[/vc_column_text]
Breast Feeding
Many parents do not know what chiropractic care can do to help with nursing difficulties. By having your newborn checked by a chiropractor the issue can be narrowed down. Various conditions can be the cause of the difficulty that is being experienced. For example it could be an issue with suction, fatigue, or latching. With a conservative chiropractic examination and treatment, these can often be resolved. It is often that the child has imbalances in their spine and cranium that are preventing them from properly feeding. As chiropractors we can also look at the nutrition and imbalances of the mother to ensure that enough milk is being produced and that it has the proper vitamins and nutrients for both mother and baby.
