At some point in life, approximately 80% of adults experience low back pain. The type of low back pain and how people describe their low back pain varies from person to person.

The low back is referred to as the lumbar spine. This region of the spine is made up of 5 vertebrae that are separated by intervertebral discs. Discs act as shock absorbers to cushion the bone and help distribute weight. Vertebra of the neck, mid back and low back make up the spinal column, which protects the spinal cord. Between the vertebrae there are holes, called foramen that allow for nerves to exit and travel to all parts of the body including muscles and organs. These nerves transmit signals back and forth from the brain to the body, the body to the brain. If you have a misalignment/restriction of the vertebrae in the lumbar spine these nerve signals can be interrupted leading to dysfunction and or back pain symptoms.

Low back pain can be caused by many different entities. It is typically mechanical in nature (misalignment). Other causes can be:

  • Sports
  • Weight lifting/training
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Pregnancy and delivery
  • Work ergonomics
  • Repetitive use
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Injuries and accidents
  • Degenerative changes
  • Bulging disc
  • Arthritis
  • Surgery
  • Kidney Stones
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee pain
  • IBS

How We Can Help

We use state-of-the-art scanning technology to measure nervous system function and progress throughout a patients care. This scanning technology allows use to see what root causes are contributing to the patients symptoms. The scans are done during the first visit for every patient as well as at the end of treatment plans to compare and demonstrate changes that were made during their care. In addition, the initial consultation includes a detailed history and chiropractic examination. The history includes any past illnesses or problems experienced, the details of the current complaint, and social and family health. During the chiropractic examination a series of tests are performed for specific areas of the body; including the spine and any extremities deemed necessary by one of our chiropractors.

Our chiropractors use specialized techniques with an emphasis on SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique). Other techniques include Diversified, Gonstead and CMRT (Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique). Our doctors also have a background in soft tissue techniques (massage therapy) and training in fascial movement taping. Our client demographic is very diverse including families, pregnant women, infants/toddlers and athletes of all ages. Our athletes vary from young athletes, weekend warriors, college athletes and professional competing athletes.
